Shelby Ying Hyde is a Brooklyn-based contributor for Bustle, where she covers a mixture of celebrity style, fashion, and shopping news for the site. This coverage includes but is not limited to: seasonal trends and all-things red carpet. With almost a decade of experience in the fashion industry, Shelby cut her teeth as a product writer and copy-editor for luxury E-commerce retailers, Net-a-Porter and Moda Operandi, respectively. In addition to writing detailed product descriptions, she worked as a liaison between the editorial and buying teams to ensure that the online verbiage aligned with that of brands like, The Row, Ganni, Markarian, and more — ensuring that customers could ultimately make an informed purchase. This unconventional background provided Shelby with an extensive understanding of the market and the ability to spot emerging talent. Switching gears slightly, she went on to be the Shopping News Fashion Editor at BDG sister title, The Zoe Report, where she managed the celebrity style and fashion news verticals. She then became the Fashion Market Editor at Harper's Bazaar, before officially going freelance full-time. Today, Shelby works as a freelance writer and branding consultant, acquiring bylines at a wide range of publications, including The Cut, Vogue, Condé Nast Traveler, ELLE, Wall Street Journal, and many more.
